This is hilarious – to an engineer anyway! A You -Tube video of government specs for rivets and such-like hardware fasteners that views like an action-movie:
Real eye candy! I mean seriously, I can recall years ago (decades?) using those standards, all stored in dusty old gigantic three-ring binders and using the dimensional data to draw them by hand using drafting equipment. Now the topic of eye-candy video treatment. How the world has changed. Just check out the super-dramatic sound track at :46. Nice. Rivet standards. Who knew they were so…amazing!
If you watch the telly you probably recognize these two hams. These are actually commercial adverts aimed at corporate customers – not TV shows. I found some of the video quite cool, and the information is informative and if you enjoy being informed you might like them.
Full disclosure: 26 years military, currently work integrating lasers into machines. I am not utterly fascinated by this sort of thing, but in this case, I found it interesting because this thing is actually deployed. If you hate guns and warships and ray guns and all that sort of thing, don’t waste you time with the next two links. But if you like this stuff go for it! Also, the gun underwater is way cool from a fluid-dynamics perspective. Big fun!
Hope you enjoyed my little video sequence! Gottagotayoga…One more day until the weekend. YOU. CAN. DO IT!
